In a world that glorifies doing, stillness has become a forgotten medicine. In this reflective piece, Coach Lorraine shares how slowing down activates your body’s innate capacity to heal — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

A Radical Idea in a Restless World
Somewhere along the way, we learned to measure our worth by what we do — how much we accomplish, how well we serve, how tirelessly we keep going.
But beneath the constant striving, our bodies whisper a quieter truth:Stillness has a way of bringing us home — to breath, to awareness, to the body’s innate intelligence that never stopped working on our behalf. In a culture that glorifies exhaustion, this is nothing short of revolutionary.
Modern research is validating what ancient wisdom has always known: rest is medicine. Studies published in Frontiers in Psychology and the Journal of Behavioral Medicine show that even 10–15 minutes of intentional quiet can lower cortisol levels, balance blood pressure, and improve emotional regulation.
When we pause, the brain’s default mode network activates — the same system linked to creativity, empathy, and insight. In other words, our inner world begins to reorganize itself toward healing the moment we slow down. Physiologists now understand this as a shift into the parasympathetic state — the body’s natural rest-and-repair mode. Here, cells regenerate, digestion and immunity strengthen, and the mind becomes clearer. Doing nothing, it turns out, is deeply productive — but not in the way we’ve been taught to measure.Science Now Confirms What the Soul Already Knows
Modern research is finally catching up to what ancient traditions have always understood: stillness heals.
After thirty years of military service, I once believed strength meant endurance — pushing harder, staying busy, proving my resilience.
But fatigue, pain, and depletion have a way of demanding attention. It was only when I allowed myself to do nothing — to sit in the quiet, breathe, and feel — that true healing began. This Thursday, December 18th at 7 PM EST, I’ll be hosting a live virtual workshop:
“The Healing Power of Doing Absolutely Nothing.” This experience isn’t just about more information — it’s about transformation through stillness.
